Na Wa o! “I Regret Bleaching My Skin”, laments Popular Ghanaian Boxer, Says He Was Bleaching To Become Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany

October 30, 2017 0 Comments
You won’t believe the hilarious reason why a popular Ghanaian boxer began to bleach in the first place.
Ghanaian boxer, Braimah Kamoko, also known as Bukom Banku has said he regrets bleaching, according to a report by AdomNews. The boxer who had been flaunting his heavily bleached skin some months back had admitted that he was bleaching to become Ghana’s ambassador to Germany.
“I am bleaching myself for German people to know that German people and Bukom Banku are one…. So if you see me now, you will observe that I am from Germany. I want Ghanaians to know that I am a German now,” he said.
But, after going at it for months now, he had now advised people not to bleach because of the adverse consequences.
Banku gave the advice while chatting with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Wednesday, October 25. Banku said he was inspired by the fairer skin of musicians such as Michael Jackson and Daddy Lumba, but has now realized bleaching is not a good thing and regrets it.
“I stopped bleaching long ago. You know Daddy Lumba and Michael Jackson were looking nice and I admired them so I also started bleaching and people started praising me…they called me ‘Banku Fresh’ and the likes and I was happy but after I stopped bleaching the name changed to ‘Banku black, banku dirty’. I now fear Ghanaians because the same people who will praise you are the same people who will turn around and insult you. I want to tell Ghanaians that bleaching is not good even if you give me $10,000.000 million, I won’t bleach,” Bukom told Bola Ray.
Banku, a former WBO Africa Cruiserweight champion suffered a humiliating defeat to former Ghana Amateur boxing team captain, Bastie Samir in the cruiserweight non-title bout held at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Saturday, 21 October 2017.

Watch Your Back! New Crime Stats Suggests London is Now More Dangerous than New York City

October 28, 2017 0 Comments
Fresh statistics have revealed that London is now more crime ridden and dangerous than New York City, with rape, robbery and violent offences far higher in that city.
The latest statistics, published earlier this week, revealed that crime across the UK was up by 13 per cent, with a surge in violence in the capital blamed for much of the increase.
Seizing on the figures, US President, Donald Trump, claimed the rise could be linked to the “spread of radical Islam”, adding that it demonstrated the need to “keep America safe”.
But critics dismissed his comments as “ignorant” and “divisive”, with former Labour leader Ed Miliband calling him an “absolute moron”.
Criminal justice experts insisted rising crime in the UK, and particularly London, was more to do with the way the city was policed and blamed the reduction in neighbourhood patrols across the capital.
While both London and New York have populations of around 8 million, figures suggest you are almost six times more likely to be burgled in the British capital than in the US city, and one and a half times more likely to fall victim to a robbery.
London has almost three times the number of reported rapes and while the murder rate in New York remains higher, the gap is narrowing dramatically.

The change in fortunes of the two global cities has been put down largely to the difference in tactics adopted by the two police forces.
Both Scotland Yard and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) have just over 30,000 officers each and budgets of around £3 billion a year.
But in the mid-1990s spiralling crime rates in New York – sparked by the crack cocaine epidemic – resulted in radical a new approach being adopted by the city’s police department.
Under the leadership of Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and police commissioner, Bill Bratton, the NYPD introduced a zero tolerance approach to low level crime and flooded problem areas with patrols.
The force also put a huge amount of emphasis on community policing in order to build bridges between the police and members of the public.
As a result the murder plummeted from a high in 1990 of over 2,000 to a record low of 335 last year.
That figure is expected to fall even lower this year, and is currently in line to dip below 240.
But the last decade has seen the Metropolitan Police move away from the neighbourhood policing model and low level in favour of pursuing more serious offences.
Last week it emerged that Scotland Yard would not even bother investigating a large number of low level offences as part of a major cost cutting drive.
In addition a huge amount of police resources have been poured into high profile and politically sensitive cases, such as a the flawed VIP child abuse inquiry and the phone hacking inquiry.
At the same time crime rates in London have been creeping up and the latest statistics are likely to increase pressure of Met bosses to reassess their policing priorities.
Last year there were almost 70,000 burglaries in Greater London with more than 43,000 taking place in people’s homes.
Robberies have also increased in London dramatically, largely as a result of people having mobile phones stolen.
Rory Geoghegan, head of criminal justice at the Centre for Social Justice, said neighbourhood policing had a wide range of benefits.
He said: “By embedding proactive community policing, the NYPD is helping tackle crime, improving the quality of life and building better relationships with the community.
“It’s an approach and argument that London – and the country as a whole – is struggling to maintain never mind bolster, with too many preferring to talk excitedly about investing in crime hubs to hunt online trolls.”
“The latest crime figures paint a depressing picture for London that reinforces the need for the sort of political and policing leadership that enabled the initial turnaround of the NYPD in the 1990s under Bill Bratton and enables the no less seismic shift being seen in New York City under Jimmy O’Neill today.”
David Green of the think tank Civitas, also said there was urgent need to put bobbies back on the beat.
He said: “It has been suggested by academics that bobbies on the beat do not reduce crime, but it is quite clear that a uniformed presence on the streets will act as an effective deterrent.
“The police in this country remain too influenced by the intelligence led investigations focused on serious crime.
“That is exactly the opposite of the model that has proved so effective in New York City over the past 20-years.”

Disgusting! Girlfriend breaks up with her boyfriend after CCTV images showed him having sex with a horse on a farm

October 28, 2017 0 Comments
A bizarre incident took place in West Russia where a disgusted girlfriend dumped her partner after he was allegedly caught on camera having sex with a horse .
The pervert, who has not been named, lit a cigarette and smiled after the apparent indecent act on a farm.
But when he noticed the CCTV camera, the man reportedly set fire to the bale of hay on which it was resting in a desperate bid to destroy all evidence.
Other cameras reportedly captured the man igniting the inferno near the oil-rich city of Ufa, west Russia, UK Mirror reports.

The clip allegedly shows the man “pushing a mare into the corner of an outside arena, first touching her with his fingers, and then having sex with her.”
“A young man who was shown setting the hay on fire did so right after having sex with one of mares. Whatever got into his head is still not clear.
“He has a girlfriend – or rather he did have a girlfriend,” said a Russian news report. The man was immediately recognised by officers, who have arrested him on suspicion of arson and may face further charges of abusing an animal.
His girlfriend was “inconsolable, furious and humiliated,” according to reports.
Social media users were also sickened.

“The other witness we want to subpoena is Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Anambra State Police Command gunned down a man fleeing with 15 bags of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp at Tarzan Junction, on the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway at about 6pm on Friday.
Naija News gathered that the incident led to an uproar in the area during which a police patrol van and other valuables were set ablaze.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nkeiruka Nwode, who described the incident as unfortunate, told Punch that a police patrol team on a stop-and-search duty had attempted to stop a driver in a Toyota Camry car for routine check, but the driver declined to stop and be searched.
The PPRO said the police had to chase the suspect from the DMGS Junction and eventually caught up with him at Tarzan Junction where the suspect resisted their attempt to search his car which led to a brawl. The police therefore, shot the victim and he died instantly.
She said: “At about 1800hrs of 20/10/2017, a police patrol team on a stop-and-search duty stopped the driver of a Toyota Camry vehicle for routine check.
“However, the driver failed to stop as directed. He was chased by the police team from Dennis Memorial Grammar School Roundabout, Onitsha, and subsequently arrested at Tarzan Junction, Nkpor as a result of traffic build-up.
“In a bid to search the vehicle properly, a melee ensued and the driver was shot by the policemen. Unfortunately, the driver died on the spot.
“A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 15 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Consequently, an angry mob set ablaze a security pick-up van that was seen approaching the junction. The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt.
“Sadly, a motor boy in an approaching trailer, on sighting the angry mob, jumped down from the trailer and lost his life on the spot. He was reported to have been crushed to death by a hit-and-run vehicle.”
Nwode said the police officers involved in the incident were undergoing interrogation, adding that “some miscreants, unaware of the true facts behind the incident, took advantage of the situation and gathered for a mob action.”
She therefore, appealed to members of the public, especially those who witnessed the incident, to feel free to provide any useful information to the police to further enhance their investigation.

“Our accounts have remained dormant since 2012. They blocked our accounts with UBA and Fidelity in Warri. We were made to understand that the problem iis from the Amnesty Office,” they claimed.
The presidential adviser on amnesty programme, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh and some Staff in the Amnesty Office were accused by the militants of allegedly diverting monies budgeted for them.
They also accused some of their leaders of improper representation, only fighting for their selfish interests.
Led by Robert Okosogha, the group, made up of seven camps, said, “Our account should be reactivated. The money should be paid into the accounts. Correction should be made on account number that was changed from UBA to Sterling and FEDELITY BANK.

Eminent Nigerian scholars in communication education stormed Free Town, capital of Sierra Leone, to honour one of the leading communication scholars in Africa, Professor Cecil Blake.
Professor Blake, of the Mass Communications Department at Fourah Bay College of the University of Sierra Leone was honoured for his contributions to communications and media by the organizers of the Idowu Sobowale International conference. The conference was held on 18th and 19th October in Free Town, Sierra Leone.

Prof. Cecil Blake
The Idowu Sobowale conference recognizes African communicators who significantly contributed to promoting and showcasing African messages through the media.
The Idowu Sobowale International Conference theme was, “Media Integration, Peace-building and Intercultural Dialogue in Africa.” This is the 4th edition that has brought together scholars, researchers and seasoned communicators to present papers on emerging issues on the continent.
The keynote speaker, HRH Igwe Prof. Onuora Nwuneli, from Anambra State Nigeria, said four years ago when the conference started it was challenging but with resiliency from the organizers it has taken on a life of its own. He said this year’s conference in Sierra Leone was designed to recognize Prof. Cecil Blake for his outstanding performance and contributions to African media and for facilitating the award of scholarships to students through the Africa Council for Communication Education (ACCE).
Prof. Nwuneli recalled his 30-years relationship with Prof. Blake in the academic and professional theatre. He said he had transformed the media landscape and achieved phenomenal success in the academic and social platform. He described Blake as young, confident and aggressive.
He  said past Africa leaders from Ghana to Tanzania and down South African had long foreseen what the continent is going through today in terms of it issues and manner at which it should be disseminated but those present at that time never took such words seriously.
Prof Nwuneli said since pre-colonial days the masters had never given Africa the chance to think outside the box because politicians have transformed from ‘something’ to ‘nothing’.
He observed that the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) was established and later collapsed as a result of funding gaps, adding that Prof. Blake single-handedly raised the Nigeria chapter.
The Chair of the conference opening ceremony, Nana Pratt, said, “Intercultural dialogue is a factor in the equation for realizing positive intra- and inter-group relationships in sustaining the present peace in the country.
There were presentations on the life of Prof. Blake from when he was a singer to being a freelance journalist to SLBC and Daily mail. He was a Minister of Information, program officer for UNESCO in Kenya and later Nigeria. Memories were shared by many friends and close relatives including SLAJ President Kelvin Lewis.

Boko Haram members are freed but we’re stuck in jail, ‘mutinous’ soldiers cry out from Kirikiri

October 17, 2017 0 Comments

Soldiers serving jail terms at the Kirikiri Medium and Maximum Security Prisons have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari to forgive them whatever wrongdoing they had committed and grant them pardon for the sake of their families.
The soldiers are those sentenced to death by a military court martial in 2014 for demanding weapons before going to confront Boko Haram terrorists, but whose cases were later reviewed and commuted to 10 years imprisonment by the Chief of Army Staff..
They include the 12 soldiers convicted in September 2014 and sentenced to death by a court martial for demanding for weapons when the General Officer Commanding the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army visited a military camp in Maiduguri, and the 58 others sentenced to death in December by another court martial for similar offence.
ICIR met the soldiers during an undercover visit to the prisons last week and interviewed them on how they’re faring and the conditions in the prisons.
The soldiers revealed that some Boko Haram suspects brought into the prisons had all regained freedom while they have continued languishing in jail.
A corporal, who acted as their spokesman, said: “The people we risked our lives fighting in Sambisa Forest who were brought here are being released one by one while we remain in jail. This is traumatic for all of us and we are begging our commander-in-chief to grant us pardon for the sake of God and our families.”
The soldiers also disclosed that the military authorities had stopped their salaries and their families had become impoverished.
“Most of us are the breadwinners of our families but we are in jail and our families have no one to take care of them. Our children have dropped out of school and we can’t help them,” said another soldier, as the others all nodded their heads in agreement.
They pointed at a soldier whose daughter was to write WAEC this year but had to drop out of school for lack of money.
But even life in the prison has been hectic and traumatic. The soldiers all complained about the exploitation by prison officials from the security men to the top.
They alleged that food ration in the prison was pathetic and that any prisoner who wanted to eat decent food had to prepare his own food or request his family to bring food to the prison.
“Prison officials request money from people who bring us food right from the gate to inside the prison. Sometimes a visitor who brings food pays as much as N3,000 each time they bring food into the prison otherwise they would not be allowed in. For God’s sake, how can we cope with this?” a soldier asked with anger on his face. BY EZEOGIDI JANEFRANCES

Ex- FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed’s trial postponed over health issue

October 17, 2017 2 Comments

The hearing of former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, in an FCT High Court Gudu, on Tuesday, has been delayed on the grounds of ill-health of the said minister.
Mohammed was unable to appear in court as a result of stomach problem.
The defendant’s lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche, was also not present because he was bereaved.
Uche, in a letter addressed to the court, requested an adjournment of the case, on the grounds that he lost his younger brother.
Mohammed has been charged on six counts bordering on false declaration of assets and graft in the sum of N864 million.
Reacting to the absence of the defendant from court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) prosecutor, Prince Ben Ikanni expressed his displeasure, saying the defendant is treating the case with kid gloves.
“In my 27 years as a prosecutor, I have never seen an accused person treat the court with such levity,’’ Ikanni said.
Speaking on the  defendants request for adjournment, Ikanni said he is fine with the request and as such leaves it at the discretion of the court.
Ikanni, affirmed that the defence had written to the court formally, but also noted that it should be on record that the defence requested an adjournment.
Mr Mbami Tula, the counsel representing the defendant’s lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche, expressed surprise at why the EFCC prosecutor was “going on as if the case was on.’’
He stated that plans to produce a medical report on Mohammed’s health status  were ongoing, adding that the defendant suffered stomach problems due to food poisoning.
He also expressed as unfortunate, that the lead counsel had to be absent as he was bereaved
“Everybody will be sick and we will all die,’’ Tula said.
Consequently, the judge, Justice Abubakar Talba, told the two parties to decide on a convenient date for hearing. BY CHINWEUBA TOBECHI
